Welcome to the Colorado Substance Use Treatment & Recovery Portal
Funding for the Colorado Substance Use Treatment & Recovery Portal comes from a Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration grant, which is administered by the Colorado Division of Behavioral Health.

Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) has been found to decrease the frequency and severity of substance use, including alcohol, tobacco, and other substances, reduce the risk of trauma, and increase the percentage of patients who enter specialized substance use treatment. The purpose of this portal is three-fold, to provide: an online confidential substance use screening tool, a services locator, and a resource library.

Online Substance Use Screening Tools

These online, confidential screening tools can be completed by an individual for a self screening, or used by healthcare providers to screen their patients. The screening tools ask short questions about past and present use of substances, such as alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, cocaine, or inhalants. Upon completion, participants will receive feedback about the possible risks of their substance use, as well as links to a treatment and recovery support service locator and resource library.

Service Locator

The Treatment and Recovery Support service locator is a searchable database that displays results on an interactive map by proximity from the desired location. Connect directly from the search results to Google Maps to get travel directions with options for driving, public transportation, biking, or walking. To view more detailed information, including the treatment provider’s address, phone number and county, click on the provider label in the search results.

Resource Library

The resource library contains useful tools for both individuals and healthcare providers on a wide range of substance use related treatment and recovery topics.

What is SBIRT?

SBIRT---Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral to Treatment---is a comprehensive, integrated, public health approach based on universal screenings which create awareness about America's number one preventable health issue---substance abuse. SBIRT Colorado is dedicated to the delivery of early prevention for those who are non-dependent substance users as well as redirecting high-risk and dependent users to the resources they need.

Universal screening, a primary goal of SBIRT, is an effective approach to substance use and the health risks associated with it because it treats alcohol and other drug use as the healthcare issue it is. Proven to be effective in reducing substance use and improving health, SBIRT is an evidence-based standard of care that demonstrates one interaction can make a difference in someone's life.
