About San Luis Valley Prevention Coalition

To develop a strong, sustainable and effective prevention system in the San Luis valley; to promote overall health and wellness for individuals, families and communities, and to comprehensively address prevention of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use in Alamosa County.

Our coalition engages in comprehensive prevention strategies and interventions. The coalition supports community efforts addressing youth access to and use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. We recieve funding from federal, state and other local resources.

Major Goals

  • Establish and strength collaboration among Alamosa County non-profit agencies, Federal, State and local governments to support the efforts of community coalitions to prevent and reduce substance use/abuse among youth.
  • Sustain ATOD (alcohol, tobacco and other drugs) prevention efforts by providing training, securing funds to ensure sustainability and recruiting new members.
  • Work on community policy to increase barriers to accessing tobacco, alcohol and marijuana.
  • Provide education on substance use in our community through social marketing campaigns for students and parents/caregivers.
  • Data is collected through the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey, parent surveys, etc. These data are used to inform local decisions about the direction of community prevention efforts.
  • Collaborate with both Trinidad State Junior College and Adams State College in prevention efforts for young adults.
